Artlink, funded by Oxford Hospitals Charity, brings art into our hospitals – and can be a powerful tool to engage, inspire and help understanding.

A new exhibition at the Churchill Hospital, called the ‘Kintsugi People Project’ is now on display at the Churchill Hospital. It was devised by Dr Carol Holliday, a psychotherapist and lecturer at the University of Cambridge.

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with precious metals, such as gold. It resonates with the process of healing, both inside and out.  Through her 30 years of clinical practice, Dr Holliday found people often use metaphors of brokenness, fragmentation, splits or cracks to express distress or describe traumatic events.

This exhibition shares Ryan Davies' photographs of people who have visible scar tissue from either accidents or surgery – and the scars in the images have been gilded with pure gold.

Ruth Charity says 'We're delighted to be able to show this wonderful exhibition in Oxford. It's such a positive and beautiful idea and the portraits and stories are so engaging and thoughtful. We hope staff, visitors and patients will enjoy it and find it supportive.'

You can find the exhibition at the JR!
